Darkening Your Room

Whether you’re a night shift worker, or you’re creating your dream cinema room, there are a number of reasons to improve darken your room. What you’ll ideally be after is a flexible window covering – one that can effectively allow or block out light as necessary.

When you’re shopping around for different window coverings, you’ll find there are several products that will offer at least some benefit to your room. For instance, you could choose:

  • Plantation shutters
  • Venetian blinds
  • Bamboo blinds
  • Curtains
  • Drapes
  • Mesh screens

While each of these options will provide at least some level of light control, none of them will block out light as effectively as roller shutters. We’re going to discuss some of the relevant products, and explain why roller shutters are the superior choice for your home.

Plantation Shutters

In Australia, plantation shutters are a common choice for a home’s bedrooms, dining rooms or theatre rooms. And while they do provide light control for your home, they are unable to completely block out light from entering your home. This is because you will always get a bit of light entering through the louvre’s edges. This light seepage can be increased significantly based on the direction of your home and placement of your windows.

Furthermore, plantation shutters will not provide you with the level of control offered by roller shutters. Their movement is often restricted to a slight angle variation, and almost always require manual operation. The roller shutters on the other hand offer automatic operation, and complete movement control (i.e. completely open, completely closed, or somewhere in between).

Mesh Screens

Whether it’s loose weave fibreglass or a wire mesh solution, mesh screens offer very limited benefits to your home’s light control. Given it’s fixed positioning, lightweight protection, and low durability, this is the economical choice for a reason. While the screens allow for effective airflow through your property, they also allow for external noise, external light and limited privacy. These mesh screens will usually be an ineffective solution for your home, particularly if your primary aim is to darken your room.

Blockout Blinds

Blockout blinds are available in a number of different styles and materials. Whether you’re considering Venetian blinds, Roman blinds, or Honeycomb blinds, they can still provide some darkening for your room. The issue is that like most interior window treatments, they’re unable to completely block out light from your room. There will still be some light continually entering the room through the gaps in the covering.

Many Australian home owners will choose roller blinds or blind-based products purely because of their affordable installation costs. What many people don’t realise is that even with a comprehensive product like roller shutters, you can avoid these installation costs! Our ‘do it yourself’ roller shutters have been specially designed for a simple and easy installation process. In addition, we provide twenty-four hour support, seven days a week.

Roller Shutters

Light Control

The EzyFit DIY Roller Shutters give you the ability to control the light that enters your home with the push of a button. This means there’s no hassle or intense labour involved in opening and closing your window covering. With the remote control accessory, you can even operate your shutters from the comfort of your couch. This is a level of convenience that is unmatched by alternative products.

Because our roller shutters are typically mounted on the exterior of your window, there are no light gaps in your covering. On the other hand, alternative products (e.g. blinds, curtains) are installed on the interior of your home, and as such, you will experience light seeping through the gaps in the covering.

Even if you’re not looking to completely block out your home’s natural light, the shutters can be used to reduce glare, and protect your interior. Because our shutters are so effective at controlling the light that enters your property, you can reduce the fading and damage your carpet and furniture are subjected to. Experiencing issues with glare through your windows? Our roller shutters will provide a comprehensive solution to your problem.

You don’t need to just take our word for it. Watch the following video to find out how Ian, a shift worker from Western Australia, installed his own roller shutters to effectively darken a bedroom:

In addition to the light control offered by roller shutters, they provide a number of benefits for your home. With roller shutters, you can effectively increase the privacy of your home. Once you lower your roller shutters, your window is completely closed from the outside world. There is no way for people to see through the roller shutters. It provides you with the peace of mind that nobody can see in your home or peer through your windows. Unlike the alternative products, there are no gaps or leaks in the covering, and as such, you area becomes completely private!
